Galaxy Nexus NFC Weirdness

I got a startle the other day from my Galaxy Nexus phone. I had taken my wallet out of my pocket and placed my phone on top of it. My phone made a noise I didn't recognize with no indication that anything was really happening. A few moments later, the phone started making the sound non-stop.

Turns out that (when the screen is on) the Galaxy Nexus is always smelling for NFC things. When I placed my phone on my wallet, it started reading my credit card. Makes me worry that credit cards can be read (and stolen) with NFC in phones.

Anyways, this seems like strange behaviour to me. The phone should at least tell me why it's freaking out when it's close to my credit card.

My phone case is my wallet. The same day I got an Android Update I got a new debit card in the mail..... I related all this noise to the Update and have had my phone on silent for 2 months as a result! Thanks for this solution!

Its doing this on my galaxy s3. But it doesn't have to be there anything I can put on my bed on my counter in my car anywhere. I can't reproduce it like you can and the sound is different than the 1 on the Galaxy Nexus. It started after recent Android update. Please help

Same thing happened to me today, except the phone wasn't near my wallet. It happened when I put it down next to my laptop. I'm sure I've done that plenty of times before, but this is the first time I heard this noise. I do remember that I did get a message last night that Google Wallet had stopped working, so maybe that had something to do with it.

This just happened to me today. Same thing, I placed the phone on my wallet, and I heard the noise!

Turns out it's my health insurance card, its chip probably is "sniffed" by the NFC chip in my Galaxy Nexus

NFC isnt really that secure. You can saved your Credit Card Details onto your phone.

Scary thing is a phone can pick up all the data in that chip.

Best alternative is, don't have pass pass on your card....
