Physics:DigitalDemolition
Materials/Models/Textures: V8matey

Prerequisites: The tutoral assumes you know how to slice a mesh turn it into fractured mesh ,setup its elements ,uncheck settings for it and designing it into a physx destrucible, and this also assumes you are aware of the slicing and crashing bugs when creating a destructible

Next time I will cover bendable metal wich uses skeletalmeshes for it's solid metal cloth like properties, also if you had trouble reading here is the script you use inside of the notepad copy/pasted physx destructible, right after the Physics=PHYS_SoftBody line add:

RemoteRole=ROLE_SimulatedProxy
TickGroup=TG_PostAsyncWork
bNoDelete=True
bAlwaysRelevant=True
bUpdateSimulatedPosition=True
bNetInitialRotation=True
bReplicateRigidBodyLocation=True
bMovable=True
bBlocksNavigation=True
bBlocksTeleport=True

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Tip!:when building soft body walls and destructibles remember it's a EXTREMELY BAD idea to merge rigid body physics enabled walls with soft body physics enabled walls. UDK will crash and not only that but it will reset that script line that was added to make the piece work in the first place.the reset happens due to changing the physics of the piece from rigid to soft body back and forth again and again.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
unfortunatly the frame rate recording was slow but i'm sure the information will compensate for it's crappy 16 fps .

  • Looks like your gpu can't handle udk itself let alont physx lol

  • @Laban510

    Physx never really runs on the gpu, that's GRB gpu accelerated rigid bodies, wich is not pubicly available yet. anyways this was old and in even more of a software mode state, Also I think a GTX 470 oc should work great with any PhysX, it's just the programing holding it back, do some research first!I

  • @Laban510

    if you look at the title it clearly states PhysX destructibles, wich was done in 2010, now in 2011 UDK mainly uses the Apex PhysX stuff.

  • I know the terminology of physx I have played around with it I never seemed to have lag with my 8800GTS,but hey don't take it to seriously i was just joking around, But I have a HD5850 now so physx never really bothers me much,but sorry if it offended you

  • wow amazibg but it lags shit tonnes!

  • @ReverseNegativeTV

    no problem if you got any other questions ask them within a month cause if Apex dont come out in udks next release , i'm ditching UDK, because of there shady administrators and crappy community help with physics.

  • @DigitalDemolition Thanks. I'm new to UDK and I've been messing around with custom player models.

  • @MrHeydude81

    yes if you need my help directly for multiple question add me at metal_skateboarder@live.com

  • @ReverseNegativeTV

    while playing the editor type in the command "behindview" or behind view it will give you a third person view without coding in stuff the engine has to process more, and you could even trigger third person "behindview" in kismet when starting a level

  • how did you make the third-person camera on the player?
