Actually, they were both put out in the same year. I used to love this flick. The game was addicting too!

The main idea camed from "Tron" and a little bit from japanese animes.

In Tron (if you could remember) main computer is dictator for programs ("humans inside cpu") which believe in their own gods ("users"). Anyone who velieve in Users computer is throwing in jail.

In Matrix you have Matrix itself which has programs (agents) which are terrorising anyone who is aware of "truth" (that all of them are inside of computer programs.

Isnt that very similiar?

You must be crazy you know how scary it would be to live a life in the Matrix you awake from a computer world that you've lived you're entire life in to find out it's fake. You find out that thousands of years ago that life was like it is now but machines took over the wold and used humans as a main source of life and power. If you don't think that's a great story wow you got a very low reach of imagination.
