The long story:
I got accepted into an amazing program in Kayafungo, Kenya run by an organization called ThinkImpact, which fosters social entrepreneurship in rural communities. I will be part of their Innovation Institute Scholars Program where I will learn about s...ocial business from community entrepreneurs. What I love about this organization is their approach to development issues via social entrepreneurship, which empowers everyday people in the community to identify and solve their own problems, rather than handing them solutions developed without their input. This represents a dramatic contrast to the traditional approach to development, where the power and money remains with the donor, while the recipients have little say in what happens.

This program is important to me because it represents a philosophy that I believe in. I don't think foreign aid is a sustainable solution for ending poverty, the people themselves are! I hope to apply the skills from this experience back home, in Ethiopia.
