Here is a complete no miss, no bomb, high scoring clear run of Taito's arcade shmup Darius Gaiden / ダライアス 外伝 .

Darius Gaiden is a 2d shoot-em-up released in 1994 by Taito. The game is known for its very fancy graphics, and the over-the-top effects used in the game.
Darius Gaiden also has a fishy theme, and you can capture some of the fishes and use them on your side in this game too.

This replay was recorded on the standard and harder version of the game, I already have a replay for the Extra version uploaded on here.
The capturing method was made a lot easier in the Extra version, less bombs are given to the player in the standard version too.

It's a side scrolling shooter, not Dance Dance revolution. That said, Mashing the button rapidly, even for short bursts, aggravates my RSI pretty badly.

I also think the arcade version of this game has dip switches for controlling rapid fire. I'm looking to get this game for my arcade, but perhaps I can load it up in mame to check the game's settings there.

This is taboo though you keep always shooting the bullet even if there is no enemy.

Because it is one of the factors that the difficulty goes up.

Boo ...

These games are supposed to be tests of physical stamina as well as skill.

Just holding the button down and sweeping up and down takes no skill at all.

Whereas - pressing rapidly and doing the same takes it out of you physically. So much so, that you'd rather pick your shots and save your energy. No autofire encourages skilful play and deters against people who sit at the far end of the screen moving up and down with fire pressed down.

Well... the Extra Version of Darius Gaiden, appart from the changed stuff, has autofire. Sadly it only got out in Japan :C
