Thumps up!

Not that I'm aware of. Which is to say I don't think their numbers fluctuate dramatically, though there are always plenty around (well the bush areas, anyway).
-
The birds are out in force around here too. White and Black cockatoos, and more Kookaburras than I think I've ever seen. They make life interesting.
-
The irony is I actually turned *down* the volume on this video to compensate. This video was recorded last year, but the cicadas have been out in force since beginning of November.
I haven't seen any funnel web spiders... I don't really know.

wow, those insects are friggin' noisy as heck! And they're out early! Did you take that vid recently? It's not even your solstice yet! Here in MN, we don't get the cicadas (which look like that but sound much different) until a month and a half or so AFTER the solstice....
How are your funnel web spiders, this time of year?
-
They are nearly as noisy as the Sulphur crested cockatoos I have to deal with in the mornings.
-
Do you get the huge 17-year invasion of cicadas in AU?
I don't know what reminds me of Christmas, I need to think about something.

It might be something to think about. Have a good one.

We used to collect the cicada shells when I lived in Darwin. Some kids had shoeboxes full of them!

Yes Leuke.

They're pretty amazing, all in all. I mean snakes shed their skins... but there's nothing quite like the shell left behind by a cicada. They're so elaborate and they have such a short lifespan. It makes me think.
