The drive from Ani to Dogubeyazit nears the borders of four different countries. Iraq, Iran, Syria and Armenia. Dogubeyazit stands on the Anatolian plain surrounded by some of Turkey's highest mountains, one of which is Mount Ararat! (The legendary landing place of Noah's ark. Oh, Noah, where are you...)

Wide expanses in this predominantly Kurdish region where people live a subsistence existence. Growing grains, grasses, herding sheep and cattle. Houses in this region of Anatolia are constructed of blocks with sod/grass roofs, built in the same manner for 9,000-10,000 years. Interesting.

Travels With Sheila and the Explore group were exceedingly lucky to actually see Mount Ararat poking through the crowds. There is never a guarantee...

  • What were those people doing at the Armenian border that was insensitive? I couldn't figure it out. Much of the audio was drowned out by noise.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano They were wearing shorts. Shorts are a big cultural no-no in this very traditional, Muslim area. Sorry about the audio and thanks for taking your time to watch and comment. Best regards, Travels With Sheila

  • @travelswithsheila Thanks for explaining. What might have happened to them? Could they have been arrested by the religious police? My wife worked in Dubai for about 3 yrs. She said that there are cameras everywhere & that everyone's fingerprints & retina prints are kept in a vast database system, so it's next to impossible to get away with anything. If you owe money & try to leave, they get you at the airport. She saw people arrested for drinking water in public during Ramadan. Pretty scary!

  • @unclejuniorsoprano I don't think Turkey has a religious police, per se, but it's just rude to offend people. Dubai doesn't sound like much fun!

  • i enjoyed this video. I was in Turkey and had a strong desire to go to far east. I was so impressed with the culture. I also enjoyed the commentary on this video. Good job!

  • @MrNighthawkcharlie Thanks for your very nice comments. Really, really enjoyed Turkey. Best regards, Travels With Sheila

  • @SuperEDUARD1988 In your dream

  • @travelswithsheila Dubai is probably the most tolerant of all Islamic states. Donald Trump has a big hotel there & Dubai has one of the worlds busiest airports. But when you live there, you see things that visitors don't generally notice. I would be afraid to be going around Iran filming with a camera. 3 Americans ventured across the Iranian border w/out a visa & ended up charged with spying & had to pay $1 million each for bail after about 3 years. You never know what you might be doing wrong.

  • Eastern Turkey borders on WESTERN AZERBAIJAN currently occupied by hayvanistani terrorists

  • @yklocnykl Again... "Eastern Anatolia" is an artificial geographical term invented by the Turkish Republic. "Anatolia" does not extend into the highlands of the eastern part of Turkey (formerly Western Armenia).
