Thats something Im hearing a lot of lately (mostly from Christians that dont go to church :) anyway, just wanted to weigh in on it.
Scriptures referenced:
Hebrews 10:23-25 (New International Version)
23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Acts 2:41-42 (New International Version)
41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
1 Peter 5:8 (New King James Version)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Ephesians 4:14-16 (New International Version)
14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
The best way to be obedience to god is by worship. right? to show you are grateful. to show he deserves it. you do this through actions as well as words which will surly strengthen your spiritual self. Muslims do this 5 times a day. Muslims have the lowest:
alcohol consumption in the country
gambling rate in the country
prison rate
divorce rate
suicide rate
and has the highest charity rate in the country.
this is the way to please god

Adam and Eve were expelled from Paradise over a simple act of disobedience. St. John says (in so many words) that obedience to God is the only evidence of love. So this question is one of many invented by a person looking for loopholes. A person should ask, "How can I be sure I'm conforming to God's will?", not, "do I have to go to church?".

Paul also says that he didn't preach the gospel without demonstration of power and the spirit. A few songs sermon and tithe is just a religious exercise.
