Irondequoit Theatre Guild's production of SideShow for Rochester TheatreFest 2008 won three TANYS (Theatre Association of NY State) awards:

Excellence in Vocal Performance to Rochelle Pray and Danielle Colombo for their portrayal of Twins Daisy and Violet Hilton "Both of these actresses brought the house down with their beautiful voices, powerful blend and rich sound. No better match could have been made. There was never a moment that we didn't believe that they were sisters."

Excellence in Vocal Ensemble work to the Cast "This cast was a marvel to listen to! Not only were the notes rich and the sound clear, their power knocked you out of your seat!"

Excellence in Music Direction to Mike Szatkowski "Mike's skill showed in the quality of sound coming off the stage. This was a powerhouse cast with a capable leader to guide them!"

if you truly believe the words you are singing, you wont need excessive hand gestures to convey that message. the audience will see it.

but really, you do sound beautiful together, and i see a lot of potential to go very very far!!!

i say all this not as a whiny youtube junkie, like "oh blah blah you suck blah blah blah", because you dont suck at ALL, you are very talented, but as a fellow performer (and director) who never underestimates the value of constructive criticism :-)

  • Thanks for the feedback and the compliments. Actually, we only added the gestures because we were directed to do so. It did feel kind of odd to me, but that's what they wanted, and I'm sure you understand that an actor must defer to the director's wishes :-)

It would have been odder for them to stand there as Siamese Twins, motionless. They are conjoined, therefore I feel motion is a necessity to avoid an awkward scene. FLAWLESS voices from a guy who is generally unimpressed with most musicals.

  • voices lovely, yall missed the sadness..... it starts sad, melancholy, seeking "Who.. when will love come for them..... but your voices are great..... what else have yall done? I would love to see more of you singing.(Ps.... I saw the original cast in NY...and I am not comparing you guys to that performance, just an observation about the song)

  • Absolutely Beautiful!

  • You're yummy, Ro.

  • oh, i do hear ya on that one. many times has a show's quality been compromised by a silly directorial choice. i've been there!

  • you do have beautiful voices the blend together beautifully...but you both appear to be very external and demonstrative with your emotions and gesticulations. i would suggest allowing the powerful message of the song to seep into your soul, and really let yourself feel what you are singing about. try to relate to a time when you felt wholly unloved and like you are not worth anything.
