Those of you familiar with the previous models of Fender's GDEC range will be aware of the concept of this combo amplifier, essentially the GDEC series is an amplifier with a host of built-in guitar effects and a range of high quality backing tracks played in a wide variety of styles. The aim of this amplifier was as a rehearsal tool for guitar players - it was designed to help guitarists widen their playing techniques by being able to prcatice them in the comfort of their own homes ...

However Fender have taken the new model - The GDEC 3, up a few notches and have included even more effects and an even wider range of music styles, plus they have added a USB port and a free copy of Ableton Live Lite 8 recording software so you can now hook your GDEC 3 with your computer. Another neat feature on the new model is the addition of an SD card slot for recording solos, riffs or any other musical sketches and improvisations, Plus there are stereo line outs for recording and live performance environments ...

The amp itself is rated at 30 Watts RMS and utilises a specuially designed 10" custom driver, there's the usual high quality Digital Amp modelling and DSP guitar Effects with 100 factory Pre-sets and a further 100 user patches. You can use these in conjunction with the 76 on-board backing tracks which are expandable via the Fender FUSE software that accompanies the amplifier, FUSE is an application that connects the user with an on-line GDEC community for the swapping of patches and sounds etc.

The USB connection allows software editing of sounds and patches plus provides recording connectivity via the SD card interface, and there's also a built-in Phrase Sampler with an Overdub and Export facility, should you wish to you can also save and store MP3 and WAV files,and to aid your creativity is the trusty built-in electronic tuner.

As the final cherry on the cake those dear chaps at Fender have also included a copy of their Amplitube Fender LE software which is in fact a software plug-in that you can use in conjunction withe the Ableton application to simulate the sound of Fender classic amplifiers.The copy of Ableton Live Lite software is a version that was specially created for Fender to use with the GDEC Range, so altogether I'd say that's a pretty comprehensive package for the new GDEC 3 Combo Amp ...

Innovation was always Fenders standard, that and quality. There's no reason why they had to stop. Amps and Guitars can always improve, and tube vs digital will always be an argument that has no end. Each has it uses and places.
