In this 10 min long video, you can see some beautiful images from northern Norway, including: Igloo ICE-HOTEL in Alta, the Sami-Parliament in Karasjok, Snowmobile-safari in Kautokeino, Reindeers in Siida and a dinner inside a Lavvo (a traditional Sami tent). The images are followed by music from Goran Bregovic, Nirvana, Moby, Mari Boine and De-Phazz.

The Sami people are an indigenous people of northern Europe inhabiting "Samiland" (Sápmi), which today encompasses parts of northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia.

  • hi, great video! just wondering what the first song is called, and if you know other similar stuff. thanks...!

  • Thanks! The first song is called "7/8 & 11/8" and is taken from the album "Arizona Dream" by Goran Bregovic. I have used Bregovic-music in almost every video I have posted here.

  • Wow, I'm sorry, but some of that music is just... not right at all for listening to while looking at images of Sámi places and people. Nirvana + Siida = wrong. Just plain wrong. I'm not suggesting Mari Boine either, though. She's overrated. Hmm, yeah, overrated... kinda like... oh, I don't know... NIRVANA?

  • Thank you for your comment, IshadaKatzteilov. I agree that Nirvana + Siida = wrong, but I still think that Nirvana + Snowmobile driving and jumping = right:)

  • the sami dont hunt commercialy or for sport, the sami dont kill the wolvs either, its the work of deforestation destroying the habitat of the wolves and lynx's. greenpeace has a sector for sami independance. my grandmother was also half sami but i am not ignorant, i check my facts.

  • Although we sometimes make gun of the Sami people, it is kinda cool to have a significant amount of indiginous people in Norway, who have a different culture from the rest of the country. That goes for Sweden, Finland and Russia, where the Sami are found as well. :)

  • @LunarPoet pretty weak argument you have there ;-)

  • @TheIdaLouise Fairly recently I heard on the radio that no one really keeps a record of where sami-people live. So the rumor that most of them live in Oslo is not substantiated. If this is true, then it's basically just a myth that someone made up. But I dunno... I don't even remember who said it.

  • most of "samene" live in Oslo, which is kinda a failure to the "samisk" culture...

  • African theory has been proven by tracing mitochondrial DNA.

  • @RPSGT

Yes, accepted because of political motives but not proven.

  • @Akvilonia It is generally accepted as fact. Sorry.

  • @RPSGT

    African theory is not proven.
