The Winchcombe Jack-in-the-Green was last seen in the town in the 1890s. This revival is brought to you by the project "Marking the Year" http://www.markingtheyear.vpweb.co.uk/default.html.

  • Hello Lolly. The archives I mentioned are those of Emma Dent, writing in 1892. She was a great benefactoress of the town. I don't think the archivs have been published, but you can find them in the Winchcombe Folk Museum.

  • I think that you are right - it was a long procession! Glad you liked the tunes - they are 2 tunes collected in Gloucestershire, namely "Three Meet" and "Chelford Races".

  • Looks like great fun and it's lovely to see you revive this old English tradition. By the way are the archives you mentioned online? would be very interested to take a look if they are! Thanks. Lolly

  • Excellent procession! Was it my imagination, but did Jack start to look tired by the end?? Great music too!
