  • your engines and videos are very nice! I see great craftsmanship!

I want to build a vertical oscillating cylinder steam engine. It will most likely be single action. are yours double action?

can a twin cylinder single action engine be self starting? It seems as though if the crack placement for the cylinders is 90 degrees it should work or am I wrong?

  • Mine are double acting - not really more difficult than single acting. In order to be self starting they must be twin cylinder and double acting. The cylinders should be close to 90 degrees apart, but it is not necessary to be precise. The same appliies to twin cylinder in-line - the crank pins should be set 90 degrees apart, but precision is not necessary, just nice and close! Glad you like my engines! John.

  • Exceptional design!! Were you able to list the plans? I'm very interested! Thank you for sharing all of your hard work, I really am envious.

  • I listed them before on eBay with few takers, but can you get me your email address? Otherwise I might list them again - Glad you like it! - John.

  • nice job. got plans available or is this a scratch biult engine?

  • It is not quite ready yet, but I hope to be selling a package of about 10 drawings, a 46 minute video, and a construction manual on eBay. I hope to get it together by mid- August. Probably about $50 the set.

  • Wonderful machine! Would be a nice engine for a small gas powered RC steamboat.

  • Thats a beautiful engine John, thankyou for sharing!

  • A real nice marine engine, excellent thanks for showing, !!!! great video

  • Very nice John, thanks for sharing and creating your video, as I often do on Youtube I was looking at something else and your engines caught my eye. My late uncle who was my favorite was a engineer with SP for years and self taught himself to do machine work. He built a steam case tractor then a live model steam engine that he used in a club in Folsom Ca. until his passing. Powerful little guys, it would pull 8 cars with a person in each small rail car. Anyway thanks for the memory. Nice Work.

  • grate job !

  • holy :O can you share the plans to this engin?
