The reason that English is so accesible (appart from literally conquering the world) is that it has elements from Celtic, Germanic (like Dutch and German) and Norman (French).
@omfgwtfbbq90 Well I do like the language, mainly because I'm actually studying to be an English teacher.
I must say the car references are quite accurate and entertaining as well, but that is what makes English so interesting! You might see lack of originality, but when you look at any language you'll see that that language was formed by speakers of different languages comming together.
@SirDaniel89 And I've been digging into the history of this language a lot, and the history is quite umm... what's the word for it? Bleak? I can't even find a proper word for it. But one thing is certain, it's not a positive, happy nor a bright word.
@SirDaniel89 So you like that a language has no originality at all in it? It would be like buying yourself a Porsche, but putting a Fiat engine in it, Ford suspension, Mercedes brakes, and to finish it all off, the interior of a VW. It would not hold it's own value and originality, would it now? A good analogy for the English language, if I say so myself.
Instead of thinking up new words, they just be lazy and Anglicize any new word they encounter.
At one point there were many ways to spell words, depending on which region you came from. When people first started printing they had to come up with a standard form of spelling. This didn't go as well as it could have because the guy in charge mixed up ways of spelling words. This leeds to much confusion for learners of English that words like 'bough', 'through' and 'thought' are spelled similarly, but are pronounced quite differently.
To a certain extent I agree with you, modern-day English (and American) people speak few languages but their own. But when you dig into the history of the language and see that it has been built up by many languages you begin to realise how rich the language itself actually is. As far as spelling is concerned, no it does not make sense, but that is the result of the melting pot of all these languages.
They don't take the effort into learning a new language, extending their lingual knowledge and experience and living in balance. No, they must exterminate every other language there is till there is nothing left. The English language has no originality at all. It's a mush-mash of every other language. It has no beauty in it. It's a fucking disease.
The English language is like a huge nuisance which just spreads to every corner of this planet like a disease. It's like a parasite, it swallows a few words of a new language it encounters, and moves on, adding those new words to it's own vocabulary. And the native people of this language are just as parasitic and cold as the language itself. Oppressing and disrespecting the natives and their language of the land the English invaded. The English have no respect, they're barbaric and arrogant.

@omfgwtfbbq90 That's rather harsh don't you think?

And also the spelling and pronounciation does not make any sense at all in English.
