Quick instruction for basic timing of a Singer 457 Sewing Machine, if its out of time you have nothing to loose to get it back into time. disclaimer you should always have a qualified tech do work on your machine.

  • I just got this exact machine. The upper thread always gets tangled around the bobbin after just one revolution and continues to get worse and more jammed as it sews. Is this a timing problem?

  • ? Interesting, from what I've seen/read that the timing on a zigzag machine should be done with the needle at the left most position. This includes the spacing [ at a closer position than is usual for a centered position. This has to do with the "geometry" between the needle and the hook [especially on a horizontal bobbin] as they pass each other. On a "zigzag" machine timing/spacing is a compromise at any position "unless you intend to sew at say the center position only".

    regards,
