Basij Week 2011 Iranian military commander Iran will respond with full force

A senior Iranian military commander says the Iranian nation has proven over the past 33 years that it will be never daunted by threats, Press TV reports.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said that for years, Iran has been exposed to the enemy's military, economic, political, and cultural threats which aimed to slow down the pace of the country's progress.

"Despite these [threats], both friends and enemies see that the Islamic Republic is rapidly progressing in all economic, political, and cultural fields," he added.

Addressing a massive parade by 50,000 members of Iran's Basij forces, the commander stressed on Friday that the country would respond to any threat with full force.

He added that if the US and Israel really want to Iran, they should be prepared to pay the price.

The commander further stated that enemies are aware of intelligence supremacy in monitoring regional and transregional developments.

"Whenever they [enemies] want to make a new move, we let them know that we are already aware of it," he noted.

Pointing to recent allegations by Western countries about discovery of Iranian chemical weapons in Libya, Firouzabadi stated that Iran has never had chemical weapons and is a victim of such weapons.

"We did not have chemical weapons to give it to another party and we consider possession of such weapons as haram (forbidden)," the military commander asserted.

He stated that since the former Libyan dictator, Muammar Qaddafi is dead the West can make up any stories it wants, adding, "In fact, they killed Gaddafi to be able to tell these lies."
