Cohoes Falls after Hurricane Irene. This is the Mohawk River just before it joins the Hudson River. This time of year, there is normally just a small flow over the right half of the falls. Yes, the overlook park was closed for safety concerns immediately after this video capture at 3 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2011. There were serious concerns of dams in danger breaking upstream at the Erie Canal locks. The Cohoes Falls is the second largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River, only surpassed by Niagara Falls.

  • I suggest you go to the 'Friends of Cohoes Falls' Facebook page to see notices about the Brookfield View Park openings and closings. Hope that helps.

  • I don't understand how often that park is closed. When the falls are running (and you want to see them...) the park is closed!! Thanks for posting the video, since I couldn't get there myself.

  • Nice Video
