I am assuming Amtrak Engine # 90220 is a F40 series locomotive? I wouldn't say it's an F40PH, as what MBTA has in their fleet given the fact of the appearance of the two clear strobe beacons on the engine, as well as the center red tail light indicator on the top of the engine as well. However I could be wrong with these observations. I frequent Haverhill station and have closely studied the similiarities of the two engines and would conclude Amtrak has F40 series locomotives, am I wrong?

What's with the garage type door on the side of 90220 and is it just a control car?

@hoggerdave 90220 was converted into a Cabbage car. The Prime mover was removed and a Garage door was installed to allow access for storage and retrival of items stored in i, and it's other function is as a control car.
