  • Go listen to I dont know anything by Mad Season (released on 95)

    And compare it to slave.

And let me know what you think.

I would really like to know your opinion.

    Peace.

  • They're similar, but for one, they're in different tunings. It's all power chord rock though, a lot of riffs have been recycled by many bands. They're very generic riffs. Daniel Johns was a teen when this was written, he was obviously influenced by what he was listening to at the time, but I really don't think he intentionally ripped of Mad Season.

  • "They're similar, but for one, they're in different tunings"

Actually.... They're both in Drop D tuning. They also use the same exact natural harmonic. The riff was a blatant ripoff. However, for 13-15 year-olds doing it...noone cared. I bet Layne Staley never even bothered to listen to Silverchair to even know about it...nor would he or anyone else in Mad Season have even cared. Those bands weren't about filing law suits over royalties.

Regardless...Slave is still a great song.

  • Slave is in drop D and "I Don't Know Anything" is in standard E tuning.

  • I think they did consider what they were doing. I don't care how young they were. Anyone who can write and perform music like that is a fucking genius.

  • 3:30 lol sex faces. love daniel johns!

  • @HumansAreDead thanx !!

  • I've touched that skin...

  • @jamminbones the mad season song is standard tuned, Slave is drop D, plus the harmonic or on differnt strings and different frets in each song. So really ripping would be a straight up copy. Its hard to name a song thats not influenced by another band from any era. Just cuz you have never heard the song it came from doesnt me that it wasnt influenced somewhere in the writting.

  • @Diambo420

Thats cool bro, i respect your opinion, and thank you for being polite, so rare on youtube.

  • @kanedasrifle Holy shit almost exact. I'm glad you made me aware of this. Daniel Johns still kicks more ass with it though

  • @HumansAreDead Yeah i was gonna post this.
