"The Promise"~ A 10 Minute Tribute To The 1979 Film ~ Starring Stephen Collins & Kathleen Quinlan

In 1979 one of romance novelist Danielle Steele's best sellers was brought to the screen (and into our hearts). The story of a woman (Kathleen Quinlan of "Apollo 13") and her boyfriend (Stephen Collins of "7th Heaven") who hit tragedy head on add an evil mother-in-law (Beatrice Straight) and you have the making of a three hankie weeper. A Beautiful theme song sung by Melissa Manchester highlights the film. The film opened at the Radio City Music Hall in New York in March of 1979 and has the distinction of being the very last film to play with a stage show after a long tradition at the theatre. Odd how he didn't recognize her at first. After the surgery she looked more exquisite, but her basic looks were the same. With a love like theirs, you'd think he'd know her when he saw her. Just saying, that's all. Loved this beautiful movie.

momentbymoment, the only problem with your description of the movie is that this is NOT a Danielle Steele story. She wrote a NOVELIZATION of the movie, based on the screenplay.

A good friend of mine asked me (that was in 2003) to read the novel and i stubbornly did while he monitors if I really am reading it. Now many years later he still bugging me if I remember this story...I vaguely remember what I read long time ago...so he told me the entire story once more...hmmm, I am wondering, will this story relate to my future and my friend???? It's a great movie and novel, the only book I read since 1980...

i have been asking people for years if they remember the movie with the necklace under the rock. i started to think maybe it was a dream because no one knew what i was talking about and i only had vague recollections of it, probably because i was 6 when it came out and even if i saw it on tv i still would have been young. i decided to google what i could remember and here it is! thank you so much for solving this puzzle for me. for some reason this movie really stuck in my head.
