This is a promo for one of the first digital TV services to bring email to the TV. Open.... was a Joint venture between BSkyB, Matsushita-Panasonic, HSBC and British Telecom to develop the market for transactional interactive television. Unfortunately the technology (based on a mix of broadcast carousel delivery and dial-up return path) was a little clunky and the majority of services were hidden in a ghetto or 'walled-garden' away from conventional TV viewing. In the end - email on the TV struggled because it wasn't private (as this promo illustrates) and because it really arrived at the point when home PC ownership was already starting to kick off.
