@TruckingVideos - I understand from my uncle Jim |(who was Assistant Floor manager at Studio A 1974-1978) that it WAS a real camel but to avoid censure from both the RSPCA and Equity it had to be cunningly disguised as a pantomine camel. The camel, affectionately known as Mustapha Jim-Bob (or Taffy), you may well remember from David Lean's epic film Lawrence of Arabia. It's a curious world....
