  • @lojosol Just an example of how a la carte isn't neccesarily the cure all. The main reasons why US has become profitable has more to do with lowering their overall operating expenses through multiple chapter 11 filings through the years combined with the HP merger that helped bring their costs in line with LCC's like WN. US's profits aren't exclusive of the bag fees, they are just a small part of the picture......But than again, what do I know...

  • @diapermanful hmmmmm.... how did American Airlines come from my mention of US Airways??? try reading what i said again. and also US Airways has made a profit for at least the last 3 years since charging for bag fees separate from their ticket price. before having the ticket cost separate, the fares were higher and fewer people could/would buy tickets. now the cost is separate and more people can buy tickets because they are cheaper. not sure about AA, but at least for US Airways, it works!

  • @lojosol Yeah...you are right. I know nothing. AA charges a la carte and has lost billions of dollars over the past 10 years and just filed for chapter 11. Southwest doesn't charge a la carte and has only had one money losing year in their history and has never filed for chapter 11. Thanks for enlightening me.

  • @diapermanful you obviously know nothing, because you would realize that they are making their profits by charging, on average, a higher fare than most other airlines. sure, other airlines like US Airways do charge for bag fees, and for changing your ticket, but as far as bag fees go, there are people who travel a lot and never check a bag, so they recognize this by separating the bag fee out of the ticket price. À la carte is what saves the customer money, not including everything in the fare!

  • @lojosol Southwest.....About the only major carrier that has consistantly posted profits, even in these difficult times and has never filed chapter 11 despite people like you that never have anything good to say about them.

  • Wish I could fly Southwest Air, but I can't I live in the North East. DAMN !!!

    lol

  • the only things airlines charge for in the air is full sized snacks, alcohol, box lunches, and sleep kits on domestic flights. internationally the only thing they charge for is alcohol. Southwest doesn't fly internationally, and they have no bag agreements with other airlines, so that means if you fly southwest first and your final destination is outside of where they fly, then your bags will have to be reclaimed and rechecked with the next airline. Southwest, America's most overrated airline!

  • @brendastar666 You're now free to move about the Country

  • What does Southwest says at the end? Can't understand it :(
