No, thank you very much. I guess what I'm saying is that rhetoric -- for example the Communist Manifesto -- can move people and motivate people to take action. Or MLK's speeches, I wouldn't say that they were inconsequential (though of course he did follow up with actions). They probably significantly helped turn the tide in the civil rights struggle.

The television industry is not in the business of informing people. They are selling ad time. They have either figured out or decided that substance doesn't get the kind of ratings their advertisers want.

Of course, if what you are saying goes against the corporate agenda, it doesn't matter how entertaining you are. They will not tolerate viewpoints that threaten their bottom line. Chomsky is critical of big business so he would be out even if he could speak in soundbites.

I personally think that Mr. Chomsky would be wasted on TV. The things that he brings to light can't be carefully analyzed in just a few minutes. He needs (and deserves) hours unto himself to present his ideas.
