One of those amazing runs. Comes close to beating the Gary Ormsby V Joe Amato final back in 1990 at Pomona, where either driver could've had the title, and Gary red lit. I got to say that Alan Johnson is a God, a .428 in the final, sets the national record and gets Don and Tony the championship, amazing stuff. Got to feel for Doug though, that team and that whole Kalitta camp are a good bunch of dudes! (Ok so I decided to type something this time) Sorry for the crappy quality, something is up with my memory stick.

Mike

PS People got in my way, but you get to feel the emotions up in the stands, yes I'm the kid shouting out Alan Johnson "You're a God" Blaine (R.I.P) was my favourite racer, and well of course Alan is my favourite too. Another note, you can hear me say a .43 just has Tony and Mel leave the line, i was close ;)

  • Since the NHRA has gone to 1000 ft in the wake of Scott Kalittas's death, we will most likely never see another record run like this. However,i'm always hopeful

  • ehm guyes alan johnson can easy make it run faster BUTH the track is the most important thing if the track aint good then the race aint good...

they wont come mutch longer if they aint getting a way to make the tracks better,,¨

and the 90% nitro thing aint making the biggest different exept they arent have to make so mutch compretion on the pistons than on the 85%

in the end the most of it counts on the track

  • they go back to 90% nitro next year, they will do it in 2008.

  • I was there that day and thought it was a wrap until Melanie put Dougie on the trailer. I was pulling for the Kallita camp but can't deny the Finals that day were just awesome. They earned it with that pass.

  • let it go back to the days of true "unlimited nirto" and it will happen. shit, it'll happen in the next 5 years or sooner. NOW, will we ever see a 3.99???? hmm?

  • i was there... and it sucked.. ive been pulling for dougy for a long time... no dening AJ is the master... and blaine was my fave of the time and would of had the championship no sweat. very comemorative of bernstien to give the trophy to AJ that season.

  • I was there that day and I will never forget it.I just kept screaming "he did it,he did it, he did it" and crying and hugging my father who was with me,and throwing my hands to the sky and thanking God for letting not just me but all the fans who were there that day.

  • This has to be the greatest pass of all time. Alan Johnson is incredible to be able to pull that off and Tony did exactly what he needed to do too. The only thing that compares is the Ormsby/Amato final in '90.

  • im so happy for him, what a great victory

  • Poor Doug, but his day will come....that was an amazing run, 4.428. How long before we see a 4.399!?!
