@DrQuijano great example. Thanks for sharing your actual experience. I happen to agree with you that a lack of understanding combined with a constant negative unified message from the right has done nothing, but add to this misconception.

The problem is that people are ignorant. My wife got a 500$ tax cut over the year and she's all "taxes went up because we had to pay". That's my fault tho, I got a 5,000$ raise, and so we went into the next bracket. But percentage-wise, we paid 2$ less than last year. Most people don't understand these mechanics and that's why they get riled up.
