MacDiarmid reads his poem, written in idiomatic Scots, "A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle" (1928).

just a small note: the poem starts off with "I am'na fou' sae muckle as tired -- " THEN "deid dune!", there was obviously a bit of delay in the recording device.

  • Not "idiomatic Scots" whatever that means but Scots, a language of its own.

  • @scotsexile1 No. MacDiarmid drew from modern and historical words/phrases from all over Scotland to create a kind of idiomatic polyglot. Therefore "idiomatic Scots" describes it rather well, it's not really a "language of its own" at all.
