Hello, everybody,

so after the long pause I uploaded another skiing video for you - please let me know what you think - especially in terms of what has been improved/went worse since my last one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1RhH6QC8A8 ) - again I've added a short "slomo" section at the end of the video so that my mistakes and imperfections can be easily spotted...

Medium/Long turns - Elan GSX 182cm / 20m - what a speeder. feels like being on a railroad all the time... Needs speed, but once you let it go - wonderful:)

Short turns - Rossignol 9S 165cm / 13m (?) - wondeful ski, I definitely recommeend it - it's 70mm wide in the waist making it ideall for all conditions, easy peasy fun- and body-carving while it's sandwich construction still guarantees you perfect grip even on pure ice:)

Funcarving - Völkl Race Department Stock 160cm / 11,5m - relatively soft (maybe because of the "ladies" length), but playful and grippy ski. needs hard compund, though...

Apart from me (the guy in red) there is also my father (the guy in the gray/black outfit with me laying it down in the background) and a friend of ours David (the guy in the green/black outfit doing the nice single-legged pianist)

Italy, Dolomites, Falcade and vicinity, last week of feb 2009

Music: Joey DeFrancesco - O Solo Mio

Please feel free to rate, comment, message and sub:)

P.S.: Apologies for not uploading this in march as I originally promised, but I've really been much too busy....

Have a fantastic upcoming season - I'll try to upload another video of me either during the season, or shortly thereafter.

Cheers

Tomas

  • Well I can't say anything about your skiing skills. I love skiing but I'm not the professional to notice something wrong ;-). But all motions look very smooth!

What I like most is the music that perfectly fits the winter and snow atmosphere :-)

  • I've been skiing for quite some time now, certainly for 15+ years now, since I was very little... Never did it on top level, though.... always recreational skier... It is quite good, but very far from perfect/what is my idea/how I would like to ski... But into the music I've only ventured two years ago with clarinet... and a year ago added alto sax, too, though I really try to focus on the clarinet now... I wish I could play my clarinet at least as good as I can ski...:D

  • Thank you for the kind comment - I still have a little bit of problem with the slightly diverging skis, especially at the turn initiation...

  • I think your skiing looks very nice and elegant. But i also think it is not carving in its pure sense-which is really allowing only the shape of your ski(s) to produce the turning. On the moderate slopes like in the video that could be achieved

I think you sometimes make two mistakes: 1.instead of using your hips and knees only to put your skis on their edges you're also trying to do that using your upper body (angulating it). This is not necessary, because this way you are in a way dragging..

  • ...your ski up towards you instead of keeping it stuffed into the ground.

2.You're rotating your upper body (your "outside" hand reaching into the turn also indicates that) into the turn. Also not necessary: your skis will take care of the turn on their own, just give them all the presure you can produce!

Correcting these two will also make you ski more easily and effectively (less muscle pain).

  • Your skiing is good, but there is too much movement with the hands, try not to clap your hands. All you have to do is keep them out and forward and pole plant like usual. If you clap alot, it sorta looks like your skiing an invisable Slalom course with the cross blocking and all. but other than that good skiing!

  • Your putting too much weight on the inside ski, causing your inverse snowplow. Try lifting the inside ski, which should help you out a bit. Nice vertical movement between the turns.

  • Good stance and alignment, but you are tipping too far inside without adequate counter tipping of the upper body. If you work on appropriate upper/lower body separation you can move the hips in while allowing the shoulders to work more to the outside over the outside ski. Your upper body looks too stiff like you forgot to take the clothes hanger out of your jacket. Without poles, practice touching the side of your boot with your outside hand through the belly of the turn, move up then switch.

  • Do you normally ski in Italy?

  • muy bueno el video.

  • your form is pretty good. the only thing i would have to say is keep your inside hand from dropping right after you initiate your turn.

  • then you have still 13 years time on your clarinet ;-)

But better focus on sax, it's just the better instrument :-D
