PrimeTel PLC: Submarine Cable Landing in Yeroskipou Beach

PrimeTel in cooperation with Reliance Globalcom, has proceeded with the landing of the submarine HAWK fibre optics cable system, on Friday the 12/06/2009 in Yeroskipou beach, Paphos.

The HAWK cable system is part of the worlds biggest submarine fibre optics cable system network around the globe, owned and managed by Reliance Globalcom.

With the landing of 'HAWK' cable system in Cyprus, PrimeTel will increase its international capacity by 5Gbps with an option for further upgrades in the near future.

Furthermore, it will allow PrimeTel to gain access on many other international cable systems. Thus, Primetel subscribers will be enjoying higher Internet speeds at lower prices. This is the beginning of a new era for the island's Telecommunications Industry since this is the first time that an independent telecomms infrastructure is connected to the international network, securing alternative routing for the island.

It is expected that with the landing of the Hawk Cable system, Cyprus will establish is role as a telecoms hub in the wider region.
