Accident at Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant

Accident happened casue stuff did not practice safe working temperature , REad a bit more ,, NOW NEW nuclear power plants in IRAN and couple have been build in CHINA ,Russia , Bulgaria are safest in the world.... BULGARIA today runs Chernobyl design , Nuclear power plant , and it did not explode ... OK ...

I hope you guys can get better maintenance for your machines. I feel sorry for those who lost their lives and their families.

Why is it that Russia has such brilliant physicists and chemists but has always been so lacking in engineering. Leading to many catastrophic accidents like this one, Chernobyl, numerous Mayak accidents larger than Chernobyl, submarines, rockets, etc.

It's not always so much engineering as maintenance. Though I too must confess; all the Russian engineers I know now live in America.

They were first into space and have put more people into space than USA without as many casualties.

Stefan Timoshenko was a Russian engineer who immigrated to the US after the Revolution. A brilliant engineer, his 70 year old textbooks are still considered valuable references.
The Timoshenko Medal is named after him.
