I AbsoluteZ3 agree. The violin can convey emotion by its vibrato, it does not depend only on rubatos and intensity changes like the piano does. It can be very dramatic even if it "plays straight through".
I am a fan of Heifetz, of course. How can one not be?

hes amazing. Nobody today plays like the violinists of the 20th century

If Heifetz is like beer, then does he cause you to lose some levels of perception?

i noticed that in this video, there were cuts in this thing. there was one in the beginning as well as in the middle part. despite that thing, it was a beautiful experience to hear heifetz play lalo.

It is not easy to squeeze this movement into the 10 minute slot allowed by youtube - and it is a very fiddly process to digitise/edit from an LP - there are one or 2 tiny slots which I clipped out due to the quality of the vinyl.
