Big City Breakdown (BCB) is video feature where local musicians are taken out of their typical performance element and placed at one of Miami's signature outdoor locations as they present a song. The presentation will be shot in a single running take with no editing magic. BCB is an opportunity to showcase Miami's best talent, highlighting their versatility without electricity, four walls, and other amenities of the bar and club scene.
Mario Icaza is a flamenco guitarist for the band Luna Cale Compania Flamenco. The Director of the group is Alessandra Grubic Torres , "Luna Cale is a nonprofit organization established for the purpose of being a conduit to express Flamenco as an art form and convey its universal language through its dance, music and song, while celebrating and strengthening women's role."
Mario has been playing guitar for about 10 years, he excels based on his love and dedication for the music. He has traveled to various East Coast states to share his talent and plans on traveling to Spain soon to study and perform as well. I had been hearing about Mario's skills around town for a couple of years and finally had a chance to meet him and listen for myself. I immediately asked him to join us for this overdue episode of the BCB and he gladly agreed.
Bob and I met Mario in the Brickell area and we parked near the Icon for the shoot. Initially we intended on shooting in the front of the hotel/condo to feature the Easter Island style columns, but after a few test shots we opted for the bay side instead. Mario played a medley called Bulerias , where he weaves some flamenco standards with his original flair. Though Mario claims he doesn't like to smile, his lack of pretension and positive attitude made it a pleasure to work with him. We even caught him smiling here and there, which suited him and seemed perfectly natural.
Bravo!
Estupendo as always..... I hope all is well
