I've got no idea how to play staccato notes on a violin. Any tips for me? Am I doing it correctly or horribly wrong?

  • Another tip for staccato is not to hold ur bow too tight (may be useful if u already play minuet in G by Ludwig van Beethoven which is in suzuki book 2, 11th song). Hey dont stretch ur pinky. Its important for the balance.

  • Hm, not sure where you got that hooked bowing but usually it's down up down up etc. with some lifts. Also take a look at your bow hold- try and get your pinky to be nice and curved and relaxed so that the knuckles at the base of the finger are flatter and the thumb and the pinky are both curved. If you want a staccato stroke, try moving from the elbow using the middle to upper part of the bow (but not so far as the tip!).
