so when the gasoline engine is driving the rear end it turns clockwise and the wheels move forward....then when the electric motor is engaged and turns the rear end counter-clockwise the wheels still turn forward? WOW!!! magic differential! :D

major problem I see is encapsulating it for lubrication and protection. a on/off solenoid might work.. but the electric moter required to move a 4 seat car would be huge.
Then you'd be paying for gasoline, batterie's, electricity to charge them up.. and 2 more things to have to maintain and replace when needed :-(
Might want to look at the BMW Hydrogen 7,, its got 2 tanks and a valve, gasoline in one, liquid Hydrogen in the other..
