On Thursday May 20, 2010 Scott Miller from Traverse City and his passenger were involved in an accident after getting on US-131 northbound at Pearl St. in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. Michigan State Police claimed Miller was passing a semi on the right and lost control. It appears from a review of the scene and the description of the accident from Miller's companion, that it is far more likely that Miller ran out of road due to the failure of the Michigan Department of Transportation to put a warning sign on US-131 indicating that the lane Miller was in ended north of Pearl St. After getting on at Pearl Miller had little chance to discover this on his own since the end of the lane was obscured by a hill and curve. These videos show that as of today, Monday June 24, 2010 MDOT had still not put up a warning sign, not even a temporary one. These videos do show that MDOT has such signs and uses them. One video shows the lane ends merge signs on westbound I96 west of Alpine. Another shows the lane ends 1000 ft. sign at the Ann St ramp onto southbound US131. The Ann St. ramp is less hazardous/congested than the situation at Pearl and only about a mile away, but for some reason it gets a warning sign and Pearl does not.

  • dude what is the point of this?

  • @thefuzzyducky1

Read the explanation. A biker died because MDOT gave no warning that the lane ended and he found himself at the end of the lane, a semi next to him and no place to go. Since then the idiots at MDOT have put up markings indicating that the lane ends.

  • @ppwiii

So the point of the video worked, MDOT corrected the problem and now folks going up that ramp have a chance of living at the end of it. The only stupid thing here was MDOT's ignorant and stupid failure to warn folks about this lane that ended w/o warning. You all missed it because it was dangerous as hell due to the lack of warning, that was the whole fing point.

  • WTF? Waste of time.

  • @DSAVEEN

Screw all you idiots that were not happy because this did not show a fatal motorcycle accident, that was not the point and that was clear from the comments. You all wasted your time because if you were looking to watch a biker die you are sick.
