  • The maps and features are great, but the operating system and hardware are far less reliable than offered by the typical mobile phone. Garmin claims that you cannot rely on their products for navigation. That is untrue. You can rely on their failure

  • @xfigbearx Personally I have never had any failure or problems with the operating system or hardware. This may be due to how I use and care for the device. In addition, I too would suggest not to rely solely on any GPS or electronic navigational aid; always having an emergency plan that included researching maps and photos of your planned route and attending a basic navigation skills course.

  • I bought 2 of these. The first broke in about a year. I thought that was a fluke. I bought a 2nd, it broke even quicker. I also own a Dakota 20 by Garmin. One of the mini sd card maps failed and will not operate. All of these failures occurred in less than a year from the date of purchase. In my opinion a navigational tool that is not reliable is a waste of money. .

  • @xfigbearx It's unfortunate that you are having so many problems with your devices. I own two GPSMAP 76CSx, Colorado 400t, and Oregon 550; all of which have performed flawlessly, especially the 76CSx. I have never used any of the preloaded maps on SD cards. I favor having the maps preloaded on the GPS or buying the mapping software for my PC then transferring to the GPS only the maps of the area I will be in. I know that Garmin has a great warranty and may replace any product if defective.

  • isnt this considered a hand held gps?

  • @themaniusedtob Yes is it, a hand held mapping GPS.
