After the demise of the Easybeats in 1969, Stevie Wright embarked on a successful solo career. In 1974 he released the epic "Evie", an 11-minute 3-part classic, which to this day remains the longest song ever to reach #1 on any chart in the world.

The Easybeats split was primarily attributed to Dutch-born Harry Vanda's increased songwriting, which had replaced Wright's. Ironically, "Evie", which became Wright's signature song, was written by Vanda & Young.

Recorded live at the 1979 Sydney Rocktober concert, this is part 3 of the song. Since YouTube's time limit prevented the whole thing, the rest has been uploaded separately.

  • Sitting with my kids teaching them a little of Australian rock history - pretty cool. Great song.

  • Hehehe - I did pretty much the same with my daughter when I uploaded it.

I personally always thought this bit (part 3) was the best part of the song, and it's a pity that most times radio stations only ever play the first part now.

  • Well said about it being to narrow to be just considered a great aussie song. This song is one of the greatest rock songs of ALL TIME, END OF STORY. I admire that others have covered it but never even coming close to what he did. Put his name into wikipedia and have a look at some of the people who have covered this classic

  • I love this song to BITZ !!! Such brilliant writing.. a sad song tho. It's gotta go down in Aussie history as THE BEST rock song.... onya Stevie ;-) Sort of pushes Barnsie to one side.

  • i wish i looked that good in jeans haha

  • I think those women perched up on the stage's edge deserved to meet Stevie in person, simply for hanging on that long LOL

  • My sister and my two friends went to The Concert of the Decade in 1979. I was so sick with the flu that they said to me as they were leaving for the day, 'Well are you going with us or not'? I tried to drag myself out of bed but I just couldn't make it. They came home all wild eyed and raving about Stevie singing Evie parts 1,2 & 3. I just burst out howling. So Thankyou, Thankyou for posting this for me as I actually feel like I got to go in some sort of weird way 32 years later.

  • I love this song, it's just brilliant. It's a shame this was one of his last great moments before his notable demise by way of substance abuse, such a shame.

My Mum and her family lived across the road from he and his family leading up to his success with the Easybeats. He was always aloof and gave mum a bit of a hard time picking on her etc, however you would never wish what happened to him on to anyone else, regardless of how much of a torment they could be.

  • Yeah All 3 parts together are cool, Stevie Wright rocks. And don't forget all the people that he and the rest of the Easy Beats, have influenced. Harry Vanda & George Young were the guitarist's of the Easy Beats and were the main producers of AC\DC. George Young is Malcolm & Angus' older brother. Harry Vanda & George Young are some of the biggest influences of the Aussie music Industry.

  • saw this for the frist time last night... being 19 i wish i was around back then... kicks any artist around today... what a bloody ripper performance infront of the greatest harbour in the world ... just loved it :)

  • At 0:24,the girl who has climbed up on the stage & looks like a sheep-dog!_How much fun is she having??

  • Had the album-and remember not wanting Evie to end at the trail-off of part 3, so when I put it on cassette, I segued into Jim Capaldis-Evie ! I used to call it..Evie part 4.I remember at this show, the Masters had also got a showing as they had had a 1970 hit, turn up your radio.Growing up in Burwood,we had the Easys in Selbourne st-Colin Burgess(Masters drummer)was from Enfield.Go the westies.

  • The chorus to this song sounds like a rip off of The Temptations/Four Tops to me.
