Short film about the end of Super 8 Kodachrome film processing. Super 8 film was used extensively for home movies and reached its peak in the 1960's and 1970's. Allegedly, since this film was made Kodak have re-opened the Kodachrome factory due to public demand...

  • Interesting short, and a lot of very insightful statements. However, you make it sound like no one can film any Super 8 footage anymore, whereas it's just that one brand of film stock which has been discontinued. Other film stocks are still readily available for purchase, processing and telecine. I understand that these don't have the traditional vibrant colour scheme of Kodachrome but I think the way you spoke of the end for Super 8 filmmaking was a little too broad.

  • @ThePeoplesPlace And how old is this film and what year is this film made? Please let me know.

  • @ThePeoplesPalace What did you say after the film reel ended? I thought I heard you say "bullets" or something like that, then you said something else. lol

  • I get the fact we lose the nice vintage bittersweet look on all the old film, yes its a end of a era, but the new technology is much more useful and of better quality, its the reason vinyl died as well which in the long run is better :) (if you reply to this comment, dont hate me for my opinion)

  • Nice choice of music. I love Brian Eno :D

  • The 'inevitable upgrade'. That is beautifully said. It is a tragedy and an almighty shame that everything is being "upgraded". Super 8 to digital, Vinyl to CD and now CD to download. Even cars have been affected. Remember the old character-filled cars like the Morris Minor and Austin Cambridge? Whats happened? They've turned into bloody Nissan Micras and Peugeots, technology destroys character. And it is very unfortunate that most people on Earth cant see that, only a few that care for the past.

  • Lets hope the same thing doesn't happen to vinyl

  • I can only imagine how stifling it must be not having the ease by which to access super 8, as do we Yanks. I continue to make super 8 shorts ad features...but Kansas is just one state over, for me.

The new Kodak 100 D is a testimony that there may be just enough support for REEL continuation.

If not, my hope is that the diminishing of the REEL shall render actual film more and more valuable as expressions of art.

  • @ThePeoplesPalace there are other options too like scanning it in or having it put on a mini dv tape
