Sunday Kitchen #62 Okara Felafel

My original recipe. While we've been staying in Nelson, we have been making soymilk. When you make soymilk you have lots of okara left over, so I had to think of something to do with it.
So, I looked up some felafel recipes on the net and then made up this recipe.
It is only really useful for people who make soymilk and have okara left over ... which is hardly anyone. Haha. Oh well.

  • i've just prepared it. couldn't wait to buy parsley so I left that out. made it without baking powder and with sesame ouil instead of olive oil. It turned out very delicious! thank you for this recipe!

  • Yeah, you don't want to eat too many of them. Just a couple with a big plate of salad and vegetables maybe.

  • Just tried this -- it turned out great!. I'm so glad of all these uses okara has -- I felt awful to threw it away :)

  • I have one question: You started by adding "one cup of okara" into the blender. Does that mean you blend some of the okara and then you also mix in some unblended okara at the end?

  • Good use for the okara. I am just starting to make soya milk, and it seemed a shame to waste the residue after filtering. Besides, I like felafel! Will try this out, thanks.

  • Okara is like the waste product, the roughage left over after you use your soy beans to make tofu. They make very good veggie burgers.

  • @Armonis Because she pronounces garlic "gahlic" and cumin "cummin"?

  • does it sips too much oil?

  • @hackneytrainer

you have to make it if you want it really fresh

use soja beans to make soja milk or tofu look at those videos
