Heinz Mack is almost totally unknown to the New York art world, yet this seminal artist, a founding member of the ZERO Group, was working on ideas and projects that foreshadowed Warhol's Silver studio, the Minimalist's use of industrial materials and fabrication methods Sol LeWitt's extrapolations of structured forms and Earth Art's environmental interventions. Probably his most innovative material was light, natural and artificial, reflected and refracted, employed with an almost Science Fictional whimsy.

  • I dunno...............but the gallery is amazing. This looks like the source for some of Damien Hirt's new works [the zillion tiny mirrors pieces]. Got to admit I never heard of Zero before. Obviously a nihilistic reference; why shiny metal and glass used is a mystery to me unless it is also an industrial statement.........
