This video is an experiment done for fun. It demonstrates how original Monkey Island 2 backgrounds look and feel in a modern 3d game engine. The sets were built using Maya and then exported into Cryengine's Sandbox editor. This is a followup to my other Monkey Island 2 videos that showed how to "convert" 2d concept art into 3d scenes using camera projection techiques. Actually, MI3 is perhaps my favorite because of the amazing cartoon graphics (and please don't start about Ron Gilbert and shit... I know my MI history and all, of course 1&2 are awesome, I just have a thing for MI3). By the way I just finished "Tales" (or MI5) yesterday and it was pretty f@ck!ng cool... Give it a try, totally worth it!
Yeah, those "Cartoons" are the only things that people could achieve them, and Monkey Island was pretty fucking awesome, so, I'm on your side. This was a masterpiece, not a cartoon!
Just to clarify I was having a go at the cartoons in the NEWER ones such as CoMI, EfMI, ToMI etc. I'd never insult the original 2!!! They were sort of semi-realistic which I think adds to the atmosphere, and makes the funny bits funnier! Wanted to post an example screenshot URL of older v newer but dont think youtube allows it. I've just given the new MI Special Edition ago and IMHO still not keen on the cartoons but to be fair they've done a brilliant job. Better than ToMI? Haven't tried.
