A 1999 film, "Mansfield Park" written and directed by Patricia Rozema, is inspired by Jane Austen's novel by the same name, Jane Austen herself, and her letters. This movie is perhaps the most experimental Jane Austen adaptation so far - you are in for a surprise.

Starring Frances O'Connor as Fanny Price, Jonny Lee Miller as Edmund Bertram, Embeth Davidtz as Mary Crawford, and Alessandro Nivola as Henry Crawford.

  • You know, Mr. Rushworth may be a bit of a doof, but he loves his wife and I feel so bad for him when he realizes his wife has left him.

  • "This is 1806, for heaven's sake!"

  • The guilt he now feels because he knows that Fanny understands what was going on during his trips to the islands. "After all the cost and care of a costly education..." - even with all of his costly education, the gentleman still has a very base and ungodly nature. Interesting how they were concerned about social respectability - I wonder how his wife would have thought about his doings while he was away?

  • Is Mariah supposed to be attractive?

  • "He loves the new ruins" lol and the worst part is that it happened x)

  • *sigh* love our thoughts and observations on the movie. its like butter.....im feeling f-clept.....talk amongst urselves LLS. yeah, i smelled f-clept wrong, but u get the gist....hopefully. XXXD below: (meant 2 say "would have put the reporter off")

  • that was stupid of rushworth 2 expose the situation in front of the reporter like that. i'd have handled that like a pro. LLS hell, off hand, i could think of at least 3-4 lies that what have put the reporter off lol. what gets me tho, is the double standard. the men could have affairs, screwing anything & everything under the sun & hes considered a mack, while the female is cast into the pit of shame, labeled 4 life & living in obscurity. my how times HAVENT changed. except the obscurity part

  • @Emilydasmexy you are so right!! hi is the hottest man in the entire movie!!

  • Oxymoron: new ruins.

  • This scene is so very well acted by Hugh Bonneville.

  • this is 1806 for heaven's sake!

  • @Maybeshesbornwithitt That was normal back then. To keep money and influence in the family. Many cousins, second cousins etc married each other back then. In our society today its wrong and that's how we are led to believe as we grow up. But it wasn't always the way it is now. When I first started reading Austen's books, that kind of thing was gross to me to, but doing research I came to understand that that was normal then.
