  • Sorry to say but Christianity is on the wrong side of history here. I'm from Canada and it's always interesting to see how our southern neighbours are dealing with social issues. We have had gay marriage here for a number of years and there has been no issue what so ever.

Also, did you have a majority of the population against abolishing slavery also? Funny how that works, eh?

  • Proof that religion is stupid.

  • @quen10banks yes but you know that there is not only one definition of marriage right? People forget that marriage can be defined as several things including "a blending or matching of different elements or components" Civil union is technically just a euphemism for marriage if you really think about it.

And you use black civil rights as an example as church within state but forget that most southern churches advocated AGAINST it. Religion and morality are subjective civil rights are not.

  • @quen10banks have you done a basic google search to ascertain that no studies exist? Perhaps you should try. I see articles from Time, MSNBC, USAToday and many many others. All you have to type is "same sex parenting study"

Please do your research, otherwise you lose all credibility...

  • @TheFreeThinkingMan I love how you try to impugn morality & religion with some of your remarks. Religion shouldn't intrude on govt huh? Period, you say. With that mindset the civil rights movement of the 60's in the U.S. would've never gotten off the ground. Much of the groundswell for that movement took place in black churches. Govt shouldn't intrude on religion but people of faith have every right to express their views in govt. U shouldnt have to shut up just because you're a Christian.

  • @TheFreeThinkingMan There are many states that give gays the same rights and benefits through civil unions and domestic partnerships as straight people get under marriage. California does this. But that doesn't stop the gays from fighting for the redefinition of the term marriage. It's not about the rights for many gays. They want the term "marriage" to be redefined to include their same-sex unions. And by the way, there is no separation of church and state in the U.S. Constitution.

  • @TheFreeThinkingMan Here's the deal. The proof is out there about single parenting v. children with two parents. 2 parents is better. Sure there are single parents but there is proof that two parents are better than one. There have not been studies done comparing children brought up in two parent homes with parents of the same sex vs. two parent homes with parents of both sexes. I'd like to see what studies you're referring to.

  • @TheFreeThinkingMan I'm sure many gay people couldn't give a rat's ass if their marriage is recognized by religions. It's recognition from the state that they want. The same benefits, the same legal status etc. Do you not have separation of church and state? The deeply religious can have their out of date morality but it should not intrude on government. Period.

  • @quen10banks wow, I almost forgot about this discussion.

To tell you the truth, I have seen all of your points brought up and refuted more times then I can remember.

There have been many many studies and many many testimonies from children brought up. I'd link you but youtube doesn't allow that (because of spamming I assume). To say you need both genders is to say no to single parenting as well. Do you oppose those as well?

  • @TheFreeThinkingMan You can't say with definity that gay marriage is "completely harmless". It's much too soon to say. There haven't been many studies done on it. And there is definite proof that children growing up in families without parents of both genders has an adverse affect on the child. You may think that the "redefinition of marriage" argument is simply a cover for discrimination but you're wrong. I've said it lots of times. No one wants to deny rights just no redefintion.

You may think all day long that the "redefinition of marriage" argument is simply a cover for discrimination but you're wrong. Many who have this view base it on deeply religious conviction.

  • The difference between gay marriage and teen pregnancy is one is completely harmless while the other actually can alter teens life quite dramatically as well as cause hurt the life of the infant as well. And I do not think society will ever be "comfortable" with that. Also, Illegal drugs are nothing new, ever heard of the 1970's?

And the "redefinition of marriage" is just a cover for discrimination. They are afraid of change, always have been always will be... plain and simple.
