As the Modern Art World changes, so do the stipulations on what is considered current art. Our hero in the Modern Art World is David Smith who not only made large and interesting metal sculptures, he also wrote the theories behind the art we consider current today. My piece I am creating here pays homage to those theories and at the same time shows concern for our environment by making art that reminds us of the 400 million year old life form, the Sand Dollar. Through this visual reference to an inhabitant of this world of nearly a half a billion years, I intend to create concern for our environment.
