The Portuguese imported 4 million African slaves into Brazil during the Trans-Atlantic Slave tradewhich was 38% of all slaves sent to the Americas and 9 times more than those sent to the United States. Today, Afro-Brazilians make more than half of Brazil's population, or more than 90 million people.

  • Exaxctly, most Black United Stateans don't know about Blacks in other countries. Alot of them say Blacks can't speak Spanish...look at Roberto Clemente, Sammy Sosa, Celia Cruz, etc. Salsa has more of an "African/Black" sound than Hip Hop and Reggae. The history of Black enslavement is almost always about the United Stateans and Black History Month is almost always about the United Stateans.

  • Brazilian Portuguese is not just an "Africanized portuguese" it also has some amerindian roots.

  • First of all Brazil belongs to its people black and white and also the indians we have have problems and we know that but this also should be fixed for us the brazilian people and and I am sure we 're all able to get this done and for those who don't know what they're talking about please shut up it's about time.

  • @ukusapillage

Yeah, then you wouldn't have no civilization. lol

  • i feel sorry for brasillians we should have killed all blacks before leaving brazil, it would be a much cleaner and happier place nowdays

  • BLACK PEOPLE AND BRAZILAN CULTURE

Blacks in Brazil are a FUNDAMENTAL part of our culture : LITERATURE? MACHADO DE ASSIS(many brazilians consider him "THE" brazilian writer). ART? ALEIJADINHO A SCULPTOR WITHOUT HANDS?(UNBELIAVEBLE). SPORT? PELÉ (c'mon you don't know the king?). Maradona go sniff cocaine in hell ...

  • Ignorance at its finest! Do u not realize the Africans & Indians both were victims to the wrath of Europeans? Not to mention being raped by these slave masters. a lot of Indians were BLACK themselves. Majority of African Americans indeed are of African & Indian decent. Half of Brasil is of BLACK decent! Smh ignorance

  • can you prove that, why would the slaves sleep with the indians.....here in america black folks always talking about i'm part indian...not true, the indians were paid to help bring our people back to the slave masters.....so why would they sleep with them? LET IT GO, BLACK PEOPLE ARE NOT INDIANS!!!

  • @LaSulamite1

Thanks for the lovely massage as for religion I have definately lost it. I was barptise and confirm and brought upthe methodist church. but i can tell u that religion hasnt done us much good. We need more of our own culture.

  • @diyonisha I am sorry to hear that you have lost faith in God. I didn't lost my faith because i haven't been converted in Europe but in Africa, amongst my people. But living now in Europe i see that as an African, my culture is very important even more important than the religion. Because generally white ppl don't identify themselves with their religion but with their western culture, so why shall we give up our lovely and cheerful african culture? I am so proud to be an African. Best wishes.

  • @papadoc2k4 Abolition in Portugal(European territory) and Por. India: 1761.

All Empire, African colonies etc . -Portugal´s Abolition Laws: 1834 (End of Transatlantic Slave trade),1854(total Abolition Law)Complete(1869).

Netherlands: in 1814(End of Slave trade) 1819 - the Dutch made a treaty with U.K. to abolish slave trade. (total abolition?) - The Dutch Suriname? (was later?)

France abolish slavery in 1848 in all its colonies.

But this information could be even more complete.

  • @papadoc2k4 In Europe and India Colonies - amongst western Empires was Portugal(1761), Newly Republican France was the next, but replaved in 1800s.

In all Empire(African colonies etc.) Portugal was 2º or 3º (1854) The years for Portuguese Laws are: 1834 (End of Transatlantic Slave trade) 1854(End) Processe Complete(1869).

Maybe yes, I find the information (about the Duch) but in Dutch Suriname? Yes in 1814(End of Slave trade) 1819 they made a treaty with U.K. to abolish slave trade.
