Sun City Alice camped in the San Juan National Forest campground near Durango, Colorado. 25 years ago, my cousin and I camped in this beautiful National Forest. At that time there were no official campsites, you just pulled in at whatever open space that the Park Service had cleared and leveled. We had so much fun singing camp-fire songs and seeing the lights of Durango light up at night. Had to put a rock under the front tire to keep from rolling off the cliff. People say you can never go back and experience something that was so wonderful again. I knew it would be different but had to find out in what way. Well, being 25 years older I greatly appreciate the efforts the Park Service has done for guests. This is a beautiful spot and I had a choice of electricity or not and since I am self contained elected the latter. The spot was level close to the new sanitary facilities that were stationed in convenient reach of all sites, beautiful picnic table and the still magnificent woods. I met several foreign travelers as they like to tent camp as they travel across our beautiful country. Very nice and wanted to know where and what Sun City Texas was as it is plastered all over my van. Liked the idea of an active adult community and saw how active I was. Well maybe not too active after a long and intense drive through the mountains of CO. It was good to walk in the park and smell the pine trees and be grateful for my blessings.
