Gameplay from Snapper, a Pac Man clone by Acornsoft playing on the Acorn Electron 8 bit vintage home computer. Retro Gaming.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's simply a quick demonstration of the game so that anyone not familiar with these old games can see what it looks like.
It's also here so that I can embed it, along with most of the games in my collection, on my website (see link above).

Any opinions or comments I make regarding these games should largely be taken with a pinch of salt.
They are usually based on my first impressions after a very brief play.

  • My previous video, Monsters features much ultra violent bashing in of heads... though they look more like strawberries than monsters, and the shovel looks more like a weedy twig.

There are 2 games for the Electron that are an absolute must. One everyone should know... one, maybe not... but I'm saving them till last.

    Feeling the suspense yet?

    Muahahahaha! ;-)

  • I love Snapper :)

  • Having just watched a video of the BBC Micro version of Snapper, I guess that Acornsoft either felt or were compelled to alter the graphics for the later release of the Electron version. The BBC version's graphics were probably too close to the arcade original for comfort, whereas the sound appears the same across both BBC and Electron versions.

  • Snapper is yellow, he looks white in this video because of the camera.

  • It's a white KC Munchkin.

  • Another excellent Acornsoft arcade rip-off. That power-pill sound really brings back memories.

  • your not a bad person, I'd rather blow up space ship than eat pellets any day

  • I see whats happenend, if you look at the wiki screen shot of this game the main character is as you say, yellow with red eyes and a hat, but in your vid the fine details and colours have been lost due to the youtube compression.

  • Not a clue I'm afraid. I'm inclined to think it's just coincidence though.

This thing looks rather like a lemon with a mouth and a cheap hat, while Horace is more of a deformed zombie teddy-bear that's had it's arms ripped off... or something ;-)

  • I thought the same thing, when the character is moving sideways. According to wiki Hungry Horace and Snapper where both released in 1982. I wonder which one came first, Maybe Steve can shed some light?

  • Same here!
