The Stein auditorium witnessed the creation of History in the field of Music with the felicitation of Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy in a special ceremony organized by UstadGah. The legendary Maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan's daughter, and the internationally acclaimed Sufi singer and founder of UstadGah, Zila Khan initiated the concept of conferring the title of USTAD- E- MAA on fellow women artists, on this occasion. Zila Khan said that she had been disturbed by the fact that only male artists were referred to as Ustad and Pandit, but female artists had no 'professional' prefix attached to their names prompting, the activist in her, to not just take up the cause but make a statement by conferring the first ever title of Ustad-e-Maa, on Dr. Yamini Krishnamurti by the patrons of UstadGah, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Hon'ble Minister New & Renewable Energy, Mr. Salman Khurshid, Hon'ble Minister Water Resources and Minority Affairs along with Padama Vibhushan Pt.Birju Maharaj.
The audio video recording of the 'oneZone Song' for world peace was written and composed by Zila Khan and sung by the students of UstadGah, in four different languages was a visual treat for the audience.
Zila Khan commenced her performance with Amir Khusro's kalaam 'Jihale Miskin Mukun Tagaful, Duraye Naina Banaye Battiyan..' followed by many others including; 'Sakhi Piya Ko Jo Main Na Dekhun, To Kaise Kaatun Andheri Ratiyan..', 'Kise Padi Haqi Jo Ja Sunave Pyare Pee Jo Hamari Batiyan..', 'Na Neend Naina Na Ang Chaina, Na Aap Aavein Na Bheje Batiyan..', 'Hum Dekhenge! Lazim Hai Ki Hum Dekhenge, Jo Din Ke Jiska Vaada Hai, Jo Looh-e-Azl Pe Likha Hai Hum Bhi Dekhenge..' and concluded with 'Aaj Jaane Ki Jidd Na Karo, Yunhin Pehlu Mein Baithe Raho, Aaj Jaane Ki Jidd Na Karo..'.
UstadGah, committed towards promoting Indian classical music, has been training musically talented students of 4 prestigious schools of Delhi, Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar. DPS International, Vasant Valley and Sprindales Pusa Road and the Mozzart choir. Zila Khan is also sponsoring the training of those students who cannot pursue their passion in music due to financial problems.
Guests present at the evening were; Dr. Farookh Abdulla (Union Minister), Dr. Karan Singh (MP), Salman Khursheed (Union water resources and minority affairs minister), Subodh Kant Sahay (Tourism Minister), Amar Singh (MP), renowned dancer Yamini Krishnamurti, Padmavibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj & Raja Randhir Singh (Secretary General, Indian Olympic Association) and others.
