  • @kaisaerpren 1º Ray himself said that poplar is too soft 2º no one is born with knlodge, asking is free so this step goes before trying and 3º that axe handle is not meant to cut down trees is basically for chopping and carving. And thats all I can say without being rude.

  • @DeadLemmy He is using an axe to make the job faster he could make an axe handle with stone tools if he wanted to but that would take him a lot a of time. You can make an axe handle with a knife but the same happens. I hope your not confused anymore haha thanks for the comment!

  • @CoolKillerClan sooo..... you split wood like everyone else? congratulations. he was splitting it in a way so that it would split where he wants it to split. you cant be completely accurate when you are using full swings.

  • isn'it better to use straight grain for axe handles?

  • Ray Mears is coming to Ontario Canada around June 2012. As far as we know this is his first time teaching in North America and a once in a life time chance to learn from a Bushcraft legend . There are only 24 of 25 spots left. If you are interested in participating send us a message for details.

  • @Doom687 lmfao

  • @CoolKillerClan Tried that with a fresh piece of poplar? guess not cause it doesnt work, maybe if you have a very well seasond one but even then poplar is very fiberous and getting the split right in that way is very hard so Ray did the smartest thing here , just to give some pointer

  • @candaliviu13 You really helped me. Can't express how grateful I am :) BIG THX!!
