We found a way to vacuum seal all used cans, using the lids that come with them. This has been a joint effort between me, Barb and Astrialkil. Three heads are better than one!

  • Ok I see your can video! Thanks so much! Can you tell me where you buy that hand can opener? And will it open a #10 can? FYI electric can openers won't do the job-RIP poor can opener!

  • @bitzbitz13 I bought the can opener at Bed Bath & Beyond. They sell several brands, I bought the easy grip type because it had good reviews. I haven't tried it on a #10 can yet but I've opened them with a regular hand crank can opener so there shouldn't be a problem with it. I haven't had an electric can opener in over 30 years.

  • Try a turkey baster. Take the bulb off and insert the tip into the cooler. Attach your vacuum cleaner hose to the turkey baster end and duct tape it up real good to maintain a vacuum. My husband did this to suck out the condensation tubing from our air conditioner and it works great.

  • @lauriegirl2 Thank you, it worked! I'm uploading a video now.

  • I enjoy ur vids... but have to ask why u don't save the hassles of cleaning, buying that type of can opener etc. and just buy clean new cans and lids from the lds for 10.cents per number 10 can and seal them as you need?

  • @lonestarebel We don't have LDS here. Even if I could order them, wouldn't I need a machine to seal them?

  • WOW!!!

  • you can use a regular can opener to open it to remove the lid like a side cut can opener

  • Thanks for giveing me some co-creation credit, that was cool ! Hey I think it might help to pry up/out the outer part of the lid so it has less friction when your trying to remove it. this would also give you a larger surface to put gasket on, so it doesnt peel up when you lift the lid.

  • Don't know if anyone brought it up...but what about liquid rubber?

  • I don't think a bucket will do, it would probably implode, but have you considered a pressure cooker, or canner, especially an old cast one. This is such a neat idea you came up with, I'll be trying this myself. Thanks, Bear

  • @imstillworkin ,In my local home depote they have them in the tool section and yes they have a threaded end that you can use.Got to admitt you came up with a great ideal,Im going to try it when i get a food saver.Hope it helps,Rich

  • Good Stuff!!! I'm definitely gonna give it a try. Thanks for sharing.
